Presenter Highlight: Rachel Parrino

Rachel Parrino (she/her) is the founder of Parrino Consulting, through which she specializes in LGBTQ+ training and consulting. She is also currently a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Administrator at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. Prior to that, she oversaw engagement and education with the Pride Center of Western New York. Rachel is a native Western New Yorker and graduate of the University of Buffalo with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology where she held the presidency of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Alliance (LGBTA) for two years and was honored with the Trailblazer Award as an alumnus. Rachel is also a Georgetown University Fellow after completing the 2018 Supporting LGBTQ Youth Certificate Program with the Erie County team.

LGBTQ+ 101 helps participants work towards providing integrated systems that include the unique needs of LGBTQ+ clients, ensuring their facility is welcoming to LGBTQ+ people, being sensitive to the histories and concerns of the LGBTQ+ community, and being open-minded, affirming, and supportive towards LGBTQ+ people to ensure accessible, competent and quality services. This is accomplished through defining terminology, clarifying concepts around gender and sexuality, and identifying steps to create inclusive environments and promote self-acceptance.

In the Community:

Child and Family Services Wellness Fair was held May 23.  It was amazing to meet in-person with hundreds of C+FS employees.  Marissa Desiderio and Gabby Wagner represented EAP to talk with employees about how EAP supports wellness. If you are interested in having C+FS EAP staff join your organizations wellness events, please reach out to eap@cfsbny.org or call us at 716-681-4300 to schedule!

On July 9th C+FS EAP Counselor Anica Squires joined Say Yes Buffalo‘s event to showcase community resources for their Family Support and Fair Futured Coaching Team.  Anica was able to meet with many great community providers specializing in mental health.

On June 11th Walsh Duffield hosted their annual benefits seminar for over 200 area organizations and invited Megan Andrews, to present “Strategies for Building a Trauma Informed Workplace”. This was a wonderful in-person opportunity to meet with leaders from around WNY. Megan shared information about C+FS EAP and insights about developing trauma informed policies and practices within organizations.  This approach provides a framework for understanding employee behavior and specific actions leaders can take to support employees.
